Only Warm Air Blowing From the AC

If the AC’s air refuses to cool down, you may have a refrigerant problem. Refrigerant is a remarkable substance that cycles continuously through the system, converting from gaseous form to liquid and back again, over and over. As it changes form, the refrigerant absorbs heat, generating the cold air that blows into your cabin.

AC refrigerant can occasionally leak. In the case of a leak, refrigerant levels will drop, lowering the pressure necessary to trigger the compressor clutch. You can ask a technician to check for a leak, which usually requires adding a special dye into the system that allows the transparent refrigerant to be seen under the light of a UV torch. If your refrigerant isn’t leaking, the warm air might be caused by a faulty compressor or clutch.

No Air at All Blowing From the AC

A variety of issues could cause the air to stop blowing from the AC vent. One of the air intakes might be clogged with debris, which will need to be cleaned out. The blower motor or blower resister, which controls how much air is pushed through the system, might be malfunctioning. Alternatively, a relay, fuse, hose, or belt might have become damaged or worn out.

Strange Noises Coming From the AC

The AC in your Porsche should be almost silent when working well. Any sudden rattling, knocking, grinding, or whining sounds indicate a problem. Rattling may be caused by dry leaves or a twig trapped somewhere in the system. Other noises could point to a malfunctioning compressor clutch, bearing, blower, or something else altogether. It’s best to ask a technician to figure it out.

Musty, Moldy-Smelling Air From the AC

Moldy, musty, mildew smells can result from fungi growing inside your air conditioner. If you like to blast your Porsche AC at maximum coldness and power, this creates additional moisture as well, which gradually creates a breeding ground for mold and mildew.

It’s important to have a smelly air conditioner cleaned promptly, as these fungal spores are unhealthy to breathe. A bad smell could also be caused by an old air filter, which has been gathering dirt and other airborne contaminants for too long and needs to be replaced.
