A First Look at the 2025 Porsche 718

Mere straight-line speed doesn’t make a good sports car by Porsche’s standards. That is why the 2025 Porsche 718 comes with a perfectly balanced chassis, satisfying power, excellent handling, and sophisticated styling.

A First Look at the 2025 Porsche 718: The Essence of Driving

Responsive Power

The base Porsche 718 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged flat-four that cranks out 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Being a boxer engine, the pistons are horizontally opposed, moving in opposite directions to cancel out vibrations and make the ride smoother. Flooring the pedal launches the sports car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and across the quarter-mile mark in 13.2 seconds.

Drivers who love Porsche’s legendary flat-six can find it in the GTS 4.0 and GT4 RS trims. On the fully loaded 718 Cayman GT4 RS, the naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six produces 493 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque, allowing the sports car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, cross the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds, and reach a blistering top speed of 196 mph.

Excellent Handling

Even at high speeds, the 718 Cayman turns like an extension of the driver’s body. Its handling prowess primarily comes from its mid-mounted engine, which distributes weight evenly across the chassis and lowers the center of gravity. This ensures that there is a near-equal amount of weight over each wheel, allowing all four of them to stay planted while cornering.

The 718 also offers several technologies that enhance its turning abilities. Porsche Torque Vectoring, standard in the GTS 4.0 and optional in all other trims, reduces the sports car’s turn radius by applying varying amounts of braking force to each rear wheel. Optional PASM further improves handling by adjusting the damping force for each wheel and reducing the ride height by 10 mm.

Timeless Design

Every element in the 718’s exterior design is unmistakably Porsche, including the signature fried egg headlights, bumper-mounted grille, and aerodynamic curves. The sculpted doors increase airflow to the large side air intakes, which help cool the mid-mounted engine. While the basic design cues remain the same, there are two body styles included in the lineup: The 718 Cayman, which is a hard top coupe, and the 718 Boxster, which is a roadster with a soft top.

Driver-Focused Cockpit

At the driver’s seat, you will find a reliable analog gauge cluster with an integrated 4.6-inch color screen. Similar to most other Porsche models, the tachometer is at the center of your instrument panel. The sports car’s steering wheel features a three-spoke design and comes with paddle shifters.
