Battery Maintenance Tips for Your Porsche
Car batteries are a relatively long-lasting component.

They usually only need to be replaced every 3 to 5 years. However, they do require maintenance both at home and from your local Porsche Center. Battery maintenance helps the battery last as long as possible while working well.
Battery Maintenance Tips From Your Local Porsche Center
Keep the Battery Clean
Over time, dirt can build up on the surface of the battery. Dirt on your battery can cause the battery to short circuit, so clean your battery every few weeks using a cloth with a battery cleaning solution on it. Pay special attention to the terminals, and make sure there’s no corrosion on the terminals, either.
Clean Away Corrosion
If corrosion appears on the terminals of your batteries, then you’ll definitely notice it. It’s highly identifiable, appearing as a white or green as a blue, green, or white powder that almost looks like crystals. This can be cleaned off with a solution made of water and baking soda, but make sure you watch for re-occurrence.
Applying petroleum jelly to the terminals can help prevent corrosion from coming back, but corrosion can also be caused by the battery leaking. If you suspect your battery might be leaking, then get to the Center straight away so we can check it out.
Drive for Longer
Taking a lot of short trips tends to wear your Porsche battery out faster than taking longer trips. Try to take longer trips instead of shorter ones as often as possible. This allows your alternator to fully charge up your battery, which it can’t do during short trips.
Keep Your Battery Warm
If there’s a cold weather outbreak, or if you take a road trip somewhere cold, then make sure you bring an insulation blanket for your battery. This helps stop the battery from getting too cold, which can cause it to lose its charge.
Avoid Using Electronics While Idle
If your engine isn’t running, then try to avoid using your car’s electronics, whether it’s the lights, radio, or USB ports. This can drain the battery very quickly, as the engine isn’t running to replenish the power used up by the electronics. As a result, the battery is put under unnecessary strain.
Stop By for Battery Check-Ups
Come by the Center for regular battery checkups. We’ll test your battery’s voltage, acid levels, and ability to properly charge to see what condition it’s in. If your battery isn’t in good condition, then we’ll happily install a new one for you.
