What Type of Charger Does the Taycan Use?
The Porsche Taycan is the perfect example of how to make an electric vehicle truly luxurious.

The stylish exterior, with its distinctive shooting brake design, looks every bit the luxury sports sedan that all car enthusiasts want. But what about underneath the hood? Charging an EV is a vital component of how well the car will work for you, so let’s look at the type of charger, and plug, and what that means in terms of charge efficiency.
What Type of Charger Does the Taycan Use?
This Porsche comes equipped with flexible charge options:
- AC option – Level 1 and Level 2
- DC option – Level 3
AC Powering
This is the most common method you will use and can be done both at home and at public power points.
Level 1
The max phase rate at AC Level 1 is 7.4kW. It is slower than the other options, taking up to 22 hours to charge from empty to full. It is ideal for use overnight at home.
Level 2
The max phase rate at AC Level 2 is 11kw. This takes the charge time down to an average of 12 hours from empty to full. You will find these types of charge points at home, work, or public locations.
DC Powering
An on-board power adapter is now available as optional equipment, using CCS and a max DC rate of 226kW. It uses DC instead of AC and is capable of rapid recharging from empty to full in just 7 hours. Going from 5% to 80% battery takes around 20 minutes, and in 5 minutes the battery can be recharged with enough range for approximately 100km.
You will usually only find these types of charge points at specialist locations, often along major highways or in urban centers.
Type of Plug
You will find the connector on the right side front of the vehicle. It has a combined AC and DC port. The top portion is used for AC, whereas both portions are used for DC options.
For a Level 1 charge, you will need a 3-pin-to-type 2 cable, whereas for a Level 2 charge, you will need a Type 2-to-Type 2 cable. For rapid, there is a tethered CCS connector as part of the charge unit.
At-Home Charge Options
Porsche offers a range of home charge solutions. The Porsche Mobile Connect charges at Level 2 and is both efficient and reliable, which is perfect for the majority of EV owners. There are smart features, such as remote control via a mobile app.
